Media
& Communications
Marketing
& Communications continued its ongoing mission of promoting the Mahoning Valley in a positive light and
educating
the business community on issues that significantly affect its
wellbeing. The
Regional Chamber has tracked 81 regional and/or national positive
stories about
the Valley since 2004 alone. From General Motors launching the
much-anticipated
Chevy Cobalt and West Corporation opening a facility in Niles and
creating
1,500 new jobs locally, to the Youngstown-Warren area ranking #4 in the
top 100
places to golf nationally, the news coming from the Valley these days
is
putting us on the map again . . . but this time, for much different
reasons.
For
the second year, Marketing & Communications utilized a strong
advertising
tool with the purchase of the full front inside cover of The
Business Journal. The page experienced a makeover in 2004 and
began to feature opinion/editorial-type content, backed with factual
information, about issues the Regional Chamber feels are important for
the
business community. Just some of the topics touched on included the
pro-business legislation voting records of our state representatives
and
senators; Operation: SOAR and its mission to save the Youngstown Air
Reserve
Station; why passage of the Issue 2 sales tax continuance in Mahoning
County
would prevent a financial crisis and much more.
The
American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) honored the Regional
Chamber's
hard work with Honorable Mention awards for the Regional
Chamber Review (now the Valley Business) and Directory
& Buyers' Guide - the
two most significant publications
we use to communicate with our members!

2005
continues to be an exciting year for Marketing & Communications and
the
Regional Chamber. We will continue to promote the image of the Mahoning Valley
as a positive one and have partnered with Youngstown State
University
for a second
photo contest that features "places and spaces" in the region. We
will steer regional and national media to replace their photo archives
of the
Valley with these contest photos, which show who we now are as a
community. In
addition, our Valley Business
magazine (taking the place of the Regional Chamber Review) will evolve
throughout the year to combine business articles with Chamber
information so that
we are giving our members even stronger tools to help them grow and
succeed.
