The rapid development of natural gas fired power plants and subsequent issue of electric regulations makes this an idea time for the Mahoning Valley to hear directly from Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Commissioner Trombold who is also the immediate past president of the Organization of PJM States, Inc., an organization of 14 state commissions in the service area of PJM, the regional transmission operator. The PUCO regulates providers of all kinds of utility services, including electric and natural gas companies, local and long distance telephone companies, water and wastewater companies, rail and trucking companies. The PUCO was created to assure Ohioans adequate, safe and reliable public utility services at a fair price. More recently, the PUCO gained responsibility for facilitating competitive utility choices for Ohio consumers. Commissioner Trombold is a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners, where she serves on the Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment. She is chair of PJM’s Independent State Agencies Committee focused on transmission needs within PJM. She also serves on the Financial Research Institute advisory board at the University of Missouri.
