Health Care

Health care reform continues to be a “hot button” for elected officials. Given the current sentiment against managed care cost containment methods, politicians know that they can gain favor with the electorate at the expense of employers and their health care plans.

However, without the provisions of managed care in place, experts predict an increase in health care costs. Those costs will eventually lead to a loss of benefits for our nation’s workers, as employers will be forced to reduce or eliminate health care benefits in order to save money.

The YWRC supports public policy that will ensure that the health care industry remains “market driven,” while encouraging policies that will increase the accessibility and affordability of health insurance. To this end, the YWRC will work:

  • To oppose the passage of legislation that would impose mandates in the types or levels of coverage that must be offered, as well as “any willing provider bills” that would eliminate a health care plan’s ability to control costs by negotiating contracts.

  • To promote the immediate 100 percent deductibility of health insurance premiums for the self- employed.

  • To work for the passage of state and federal legislation to reform the judicial system.

  • To oppose the creation of additional state or federal bureaucracies to monitor or regulate employers’ health care plans unless they will provide necessary services for businesses and consumers.
