A
Community-wide Process
Mahoning
Valley Vision for Education (MVVE) is not focused on developing
yet another program for education reform. Rather, we aim to
define a vision that will guide community groups and educational
institutions as they develop programs to achieve the communitys
educational goals. Because of this, MVVE emphasizes a community-wide
process. The steering committee members are committed to serve
as an umbrella organization with other educational efforts
as a supportive partner as long as the initiative/ programs
have a common goal with MVVE, to provide a relevant, quality
education and a well prepared workforce in the Mahoning Valley.
We
believe that this process will lead to measurable improvement
in high school attendance and graduation rates, and the State
proficiency scores. The process will also increase participation
in the full range of post-secondary education, including higher
education, vocational and technical training and workforce
development. All of this will contribute to economic development
of the Mahoning Valley and Ohio. At the same time this project
will serve as a model for other regions, illustrating the
value of approaching education as a property and responsibility
of the community as a whole and the importance of thoughtful
assessment to guide educational improvement.
The
MVVE is widely seen as the voice of civic concern about the
future of the region, with the public schools as the crucial
piece of the economic recovery puzzle. - The
