The Regional Chamber is pleased to recognize the appointments of Dr. Farid Naffah to the Ohio Arts Council and Eric Ryan to the Ohio Citizens for the Arts Board of Directors. The appointments mark the first time that Valley residents have been part of either group for at least several decades, if not ever.

The OH-PA Stateline Export Initiative that is designed to bring exporting awareness, foreign direct investment and supply chain matching to a 10-county region in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania received recognition by the Mid-America Economic Development Council (MAEDC) at its annual Competitiveness Conference & Site Selector Forum in Chicago on Monday.

Global Trade Magazine ranked Youngstown one of the “Best Cities for Export Assistance” in its fourth annual “Best Cities for Global Trade” report in October. The publication recognized the OH-PA Stateline Export Initiative, a 10-county effort created and launched by the Regional Chamber and Youngstown State University’s International Trade Assistance Center in January to increase export activity in the region.

Marek Gootman, director of Strategic Partnerships and Global Initiatives at the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, will be in the Youngstown region October 21 and 22 to meet with members of the Steering Committee of the OH-PA Stateline Export Initiative, as well as leaders of the Regional Chamber and Youngstown State University.
Gootman will discuss the preliminary results and findings of an ongoing survey of manufacturers and business service providers in the region regarding their exporting experiences. He also will tour several companies that are either already exporting or looking to start, splitting his time between Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber pursued several economic development leads during an invitation-only, site consultant forum in Montreal that was part of the international Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives annual convention.
While nearly a thousand executives attended the convention, Regional Chamber Vice President of Economic Development, North America Sarah Boyarko, was one of approximately 20 invited to the site selection forum.

Poland Township and Struthers are among the safest cities in Ohio. According to Safewise, a home security industry group, Poland Township has the fourth-lowest crime rate in the state. It recorded 0.24 violent crimes per 1,000 residents and 4.17 property crimes per 1,000 residents in 2013, the most recent year for FBI statistics.
